Ugent Need Request (UNR) application general specs

This page goes into detail about an application I would like to see created on a global platform. For several years I have been refining it and hoped to build it myself. However, in order for this application to truly be global, it would require a level of time and resources that I do not have. I am sending the details out into the world in the hopes that someone will build it as part of an existing global platform.

The system would not be designed to be a charitable contribution system, it is designed for the requester and anonymous giver who are interested in getting goods to anonymous people in need quickly and are not interested in being recognized for their efforts. The giver has no idea who their contribution is going to and may or may not receive a charitable receipt. The receiver of the goods has no idea who gave them the contribution. The receiver may not even know a request for goods was submitted on behalf of them to begin with.

Problem I want the UNR system to address:

Unknown people in communities are going without for many different reasons. I want the urgent needs of these people met quickly in a way that is safe for them as well as safe for those meeting the needs. This system will also serve as a reminder to communites of the level of need their community is experiencing and hopefully encourage them to become a part of resolving urgent needs in surrounding areas.

What an Urgent Need is:

Food, medication, equipment, clothing, or shelter that must be addressed quickly. This web application would be designed as a component to an existing global online system (X, FaceBook, etc) with the following components:
  • public facing web page for members of the public to view UNRs and "ACCEPT" one to fulfill
  • public facing web page to post a UNR – a subset of a community posts need requests: charities, law enforcement, medical community, churches, schools, landlords, store clerks, etc – any easily identifiable organization or person that witnesses need in real time during the course of business day
  • this system by default could promote reuse if used items were allowed (i.e. furniture, tools, walker, wheelchair)

Anonymity factor to protect person fulfilling request and the recipient of item(s):

UNRs do not contain information that could identify the recipient of the goods. The UNR is very short, no backstory is provided with UNRs. Example: a police officer in Lima, Ohio sees a homeless man with no shoes. He speaks to the man and determines his shoe size. The officer, unbeknownst to the homeless man, adds the UNR to the queue as "Men's pair of white sneakers, size 13". If a Public user "Accepts" this UNR, they are told to ship or deliver sneakers to the address of the Lima Police Department. Once the shoes are delivered, the police officer delivers the shoes to the homeless man. The homeless man is unaware that a UNR was posted on his behalf, and he does not know who gave him the shoes. He just knows the officer is giving him a pair of shoes.

Possible Unintended Side Effects of this Process:

  • requester could be corrupt and use this system to gain access to recipients to harm recipients or to collect goods for other purposes, accountability is in place in part by the name and address of the requestor being provided to the fulfiller at time of fulfillment as well as being vetted in advance on the global platform
  • general public could be corrupt and use this system to harm requesters, accountability is in place in part by the name and address of the person fulfilling the request being provided to the requester as well as being vetted in advance on the global platform
  • requester may be viewed differently (in a more positive light when seen distributing to those in need)
  • requester may be harmed when distributing to those in need
  • recipient may reject the unexpected goods out of pre-existing feelings toward requester or out of pride or general suspicion
  • general public foot traffic or mail could increase at the addresses of requesters for the dropping off of goods (hospitals, schools, police stations) and this could pose numerous security risks

The image noted below is a quick example of how a client would use the application if it were integrated into an existing global platform:
