Candy Cane Vase Joy

Candy Cane Vase and Floral Bouquet

The candy cane vase is a spectacular display but it can also be a helpful gift during the holidays for friends or family that are seriously ill. Peppermint is good for nausea, the colorful display can lift spirits, and we all know the wonder fresh flowers can do for our fellow humans. I hope you will consider making a candy cane floral bouquet for someone today.

I have watched many tutorials on how to make candy cane vases. This year I decided to create one for a friend currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments.

Upon completion of my first vase, I realized this finished project was not stable enough for transport. Once the vase was wrapped in candy canes, no matter how many rubber bands I used to support the structure, the slick surface of the glass vase created far too much candy cane meandering. I didn’t want to use anything more complex than rubber bands because the recipient has to have an easy way to remove the candy canes.

To solve this problem, I wrapped the bottom of the vase and candy canes with ribbon and fabric. This provides a much more stable product for transport and still allows for easy removal of candy canes by pulling them straight up and out of the top of the whole mess of Christmas joy.

Once completed, I filled the vase with water and added beautiful white flowers and a green ribbon. Details on this project are outlined below. Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!

Get out a few of your oldest vases and glasses. The ones you have had for over twenty years, the ones you consider priceless. These are the ones you will decorate and give to others. No whining. It doesn’t matter if the vase is priceless or not. It is doing no one any good by living on a back shelf in the dark. For this project I used my prize vintage milk jar from Hopewell Dairy Farm of Bellefontaine, Ohio:

Wrap the jar in loads of individually wrapped candy canes with the help of rubber bands:
